NBA basketball record (54-28)
A playoff basketball team wins 54 games out of 82 regular season matchups.
Frequently asked questions
How is winning percentage calculated in sports?
Winning percentage divides total wins by total games played: Win% = (Wins ÷ Total Games) × 100. In leagues with ties (such as the NFL, NHL, or soccer), ties count as half a win (0.5 wins): Win% = (Wins + 0.5 × Ties) ÷ (Wins + Losses + Ties) × 100.
Why do sports standings show .600 instead of 60%?
North American sports leagues (MLB, NBA, NFL) traditionally display winning percentages as three-place decimals preceded by a period (e.g. .625 or .500). Mathematically, multiplying this decimal by 100 gives the standard percentage (62.5%).
How do overtime losses work in the NHL?
The NHL uses a point system (2 points for a win, 1 point for an overtime/shootout loss). While NHL points percentage uses Points ÷ (2 × Games Played), standard North American win percentage treats overtime losses as ties (0.5 credit).
