Field Goal Percentage Calculator
Calculate basketball Field Goal Percentage (FG%) and Effective Field Goal Percentage (eFG%) with verified shooting metrics.
Shooting efficiency formulas
Standard accuracy versus weighted perimeter value in basketball analytics:
Standard Field Goal (FG%)
Raw proportion of field attempts that scored.
Effective Field Goal (eFG%)
Accounts for the extra 50% value of 3-point field goals.
Shooting examples
Perimeter shooter (8 of 18 with 5 made 3s)
A guard shoots 8-for-18 from the floor, including 5 three-pointers.
Paint scorer (10 of 16 all 2-pointers)
A center converts 10 of 16 shot attempts around the rim with zero 3-point attempts.
Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate Field Goal Percentage (FG%) in basketball?
Divide shots made (FGM) by total shots attempted (FGA) and multiply by 100: FG% = (FGM ÷ FGA) × 100. For example, making 8 out of 18 shots is (8 ÷ 18) × 100 = 44.4%.
What is Effective Field Goal Percentage (eFG%)?
eFG% adjusts standard field goal shooting to reflect that a 3-pointer is worth 50% more than a 2-point shot. Formula: eFG% = [(FGM + 0.5 × 3PM) ÷ FGA] × 100.
What is the difference between eFG% and True Shooting Percentage (TS%)?
eFG% evaluates only shots taken from the field during play. True Shooting Percentage (TS%) takes efficiency a step further by incorporating free throw attempts into the scoring model.
