Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate social media engagement rate?
Sum all interactions (likes, comments, shares, saves), divide by total followers or impressions, and multiply by 100: ER (%) = (Total Engagements ÷ Followers) × 100. For example, 450 total engagements on an account with 10,000 followers is (450 ÷ 10,000) × 100 = 4.50% engagement rate.
Is engagement by followers or engagement by reach better?
Engagement by reach (ERR) measures how many people who actually saw your content interacted with it, which is often a cleaner metric given algorithm changes. Engagement by followers (ER) remains the standard for public benchmarking and influencer campaigns.
What is considered a good engagement rate on Instagram and TikTok?
On Instagram, an engagement rate between 1% and 3% is average, while 3% to 6% is high. On TikTok, engagement rates are generally higher, commonly averaging 4% to 9% depending on account size.
